Ethyl acetate

Ethyl acetate is a widely used as an extraction solvent in the production of paints, varnishes, lacquers, cleaning mixtures, printing inks and nail polish remover. Ethyl Acetate is a colorless liquid with a sweet, fruity odour. It is used in the manufacture of powder, as a stabilizer in some pharmaceuticals and as a fragrance base for synthetic fragrances. Ethyl Acetate is also used in food flavorings to impart a fruity taste.

Ethyl Acetate is used to make all kinds of coating formulations such as epoxies, urethanes and polyurethanes. It’s also used as a fuming agent in the manufacture of cellulosic fiberglass insulation, re-coatings, vinyl polymers and polyester fibers.

Safety Data Sheet

Ethyl acetate is the primary raw material in the production of cellulose acetate varnishes, and is also an ingredient in ethyl oleate lacquers which can be used as interior, exterior and wood furniture finishes. It is commonly used in the textile industry as a solvent for a variety of cellulose fibers, such as cotton and wool and dyes that are used in clothing production. It is also regularly applied in the manufacture of artificial leather. Ethyl Acetate has a number of crucial uses in our everyday lives.

Frequently found in the manufacture of adhesives and paints, Ethyl Acetate is also used as a paint thinner, and in some cleaners.
Ethyl acetate allows for paints to dry more quickly when applied to surfaces. The main reason it is used as a thinner for oil paints is because it has a low boiling point (about 50 °C) which makes it easy to evaporate the excess oil from the paint film. Ethyl acetate is also used as a solvent in coatings and plastics manufacturing processes. It has both polar and non-polar characteristics, meaning that it can dissolve certain substances but cannot dissolve others.

Ethyl Acetate may also be used as a gelling agent in the manufacture of powder, as a solvent for resins, as an intermediate in the production of rubber chemicals, as an antifreeze or refrigerant, and as a laboratory chemical. It is also a chemical used in the construction sector as an adhesive for glues or sealants, as well as in the manufacturing of synthetic rubber and plasticizers.
